If you’re looking for a non-traditional way to strengthen your core, come to the barn!  Many of today’s workout programs incorporate isometric exercise.  For example, if you’re in the gym doing a seated row and hold the position when your hands are closet to your chest to get a good squeeze of strength from that muscle or if you’ve done pilates and held a plank, you’ve done isometric exercises.

This sport involves isometric exercises through maintaining proper leg position, seat position and keeping your balance while supporting the horse to maintain that desired frame.  Along with the core muscles, the inner thighs and pelvic muscles get the biggest workout as a rider positions himself or herself. Horseback riding is terrific for overall muscle tone and flexibility.
