The “Abby Road Riders” youth club will be traveling to William Woods University this month. The World Cup Tryouts for 3-Gaited and 5-Gaited Divisions will be held at the University. Our club will enjoy the opportunity to watch these top-notch horses and riders compete for their spot in the competition which will be held in South Africa!

The Abby Road Riders Youth Club voted to go Christmas caroling at a local nursing home. I think we enjoyed doing it just as much as the residences enjoyed it! We’re really proud of this group. When asked in last month’s youth club meeting, what upcoming activity they would like to plan, this is what they voted on. I think it just shows what a great, giving group of young people we have at Abby Road Farm. Abby Road Riders Go To Kentucky!

The Horse Riding Students from Raymore, Lees Summit, and Peculiar…AKA the “Abby Road Youth Riders” planned and held fund raisers for the past year. Their dedication both on and off the horses allowed them to enjoy the fruits of their labor. In August we said goodby to Horse Lesson Central in Peculiar, MO and boarded a plane bound for Kentucky! For most, this was the first trip to World Championship Horse Show. The absolute beauty of the quality of the Saddlebred Horses at this show were unmistakeable. We also managed to squeeze in some shopping while we were there……11 girls, are you surprised? It was a great time, great friends and great memories were made.

The girls bridled up their horses, skipped the saddles and hopped on for a fun afternoon in the sun. We’re fast at work on the trail which will surround the 25 acres at Abby Road Farm. It will also be a great place to jog your horse. Check in regularly and we’ll keep you posted. Gotta’ go now, my help is here to set more posts! Thank goodness we’ve had a break in the heat.

Saddle Up Show Successes!

The Abby Road Riders participated in the Saddle Up Show at Longview HorseshowJune 24th and 25th. Everyone did a terrific job! Students are really progressing in their skills. Whether the rider received a blue ribbon or not, I saw many successes in the showring. The riders were full of confidence, focus and determination! Courtney had her first walk/trot/canter class and received 2 blues! Lee and Dollar were a poised team that also brought home a blue. Taylor is becoming an increasingly confident rider and brought home a blue on Boomer, while showing in the full bridle! Ari also brought home a blue while showing Gator.

On a side note, Ari and her family are moving to North Dakota. Her dad has received a promotion and a wonderful job opportunity. We’re very happy for Ari’s family, but will truly miss her! She made her last show with Abby Road Farm a very memorable one.

I, along with other riders, did not bring home a blue. However; I had a terrific time showing! It can be a bit discouraging sometimes. We’re working with animals with a mind of their own. We may be totally prepared to go give our best show, yet our horse may have another agenda that day. I can only speak for myself that I try to think about what I can do better next time. That’s what keeps me motivated. I practice and see improvements. The challenge is exciting! It makes me anxious for the next show! Let’s face it, out of the hundreds of people participating in a show, the vast majority will not take home a blue. We all do it because we love the sport, adore our horses and thrive on competition. We look forward to our next show in July 21st through 23rd. It will be Central State and it will be at Hale Arena in air conditioning! Hope to see many of you there. I’m so proud and honored to have all of you a part of Abby Road Farm. See you at the barn!

June Horsemanship Camp

Our June Horsemanship Camp went great. Lots of new kids were introduced to the exciting sport of horseback riding. We look forward to one more camp July 7th through 9th.

KMBC 9 News Visits Abby Road Farm

Many of you may have heard about this very scary Herpes Virus-1 which has killed at least 7 horses in the West, including Canada and Colorado. Channel 9 did a story on the deadly virus and brought their cameras to Abby Road to get some feedback from people in tghe horse industry. They had a lengthy interview with Lynn as she shared with them what she has learned about the virus. This aired on the 9p and 10p news on Channel 9 Thursday the 19th. I believe it can still be viewed on their website.

Several horse shows have been canceled including a competition that was scheduled for this weekend at the Kansas Sate Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. This may be affecting Abby Road’s show participation as well. We’re still undecided if we will be attending the Nebraska Charity Horseshow the first week of June.
